Looks like they still don't know how to balance games I recently went back to GW2 and my biggest pet peeve at the moment is my Necromancer has my favourite name but I want to play my Elementalist who has my least favourite name. I for one am completely spoiled rotten by this one-character-all-jobs system due to the quality of life improvements it offers over the traditional system: I don't have to relog every time I switch classes, I don't need to think of a new name every time I want to try a new class, I don't have to explain what's my main and what's my alt, I don't have to manage the gear and inventory of multiple characters, similar classes share gear so I don't have to get multiples of the same gear for two different mages.
The main takeaway is alts still exist but are not necessary, as opposed to other games where I need alts for different classes. That is not to say alts are completely useless, as most players do have alts for different reasons - some use alts for increased storage space / auction house space / maximizing daily quest rewards, others use alts for role-plays, some people just want to experience the leveling process all over again. it's a one-and-done story that doesn't gel well with alts. Most of the game's contents are completely locked behind the main scenario per character, and there are no meaningful choices that can affect the outcome of the story at any point, i.e. Late to the discussion here but let me go into the reasons for the one character all classes design choice in XIV and also explain why I think your opinions were downvoted: I think its a really clever trick to make people see their WoL as their little OC that is special to them alone rather than a character to go to raid when the guild lacks a warlock, for example. Its a really neat idea that basically invites you to take a more active role in the narrative than most MMO stories through this sort of gameplay descision. This idea is best demonstrated in the shadowbringers trailer were the man struggles to fight his enemy from Warrior to Dragoon to Monk to Samurai until eventually tapping into the dark power of Dark Knight. While this is determined by the trailer, and one can obviously choose any other job they want through each batch of content, you are sort of encouraged to try and experience, with the same character, the story as a different class.
